Defifinitions
● Confifi guration fifi les (also called bit fifi les) contain the information that will be uploaded into the FPGA in order to program it to perform a specififi c function.
● In the case of SRAM-based FPGAs, the confifi guration fifi le contains a mixture of confifi guration data (bits that are used to defifi ne the state of programmable logic elements directly) and confifi guration commands (instructions that tell the device what to do with the confifi guration data). When the confifi guration fifi le is in the process of being loaded into the device, the information being transferred is referred to as the confifi guration bitstream.
—Technology Trade-offs—
● E 2 -based and FLASH-based devices are programmed in a similar manner to their SRAM-based cousins. By comparison, in the case of antifuse-based FPGAs, the configuration file predominantly contains only a representation of the configuration data that will be used to grow the antifuses.
